Role Description

Position Overview

We are seeking a Drum Teacher to deliver peripatetic drum lessons in schools across Cumbria as a self-employed contractor. In this role, you will invoice Performant Solutions Limited for sessions delivered and manage your own tax, National Insurance, and insurance arrangements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lesson Delivery

    • Plan, organise, and deliver engaging drum lessons for students of varying ages and skill levels.
    • Cover key topics, including drum set technique, rhythm, and musical expression.
    • Provide personalised individual and group lessons tailored to student needs.

  • Lesson Management

    • Design and prepare effective learning materials for each lesson.
    • Assess student progress and offer constructive feedback to encourage growth.
    • Adapt teaching methods for diverse learning styles, ensuring clarity and patience in classroom delivery.
  • Engagement & Collaboration

    • Foster a positive, motivating atmosphere that builds musical confidence.
    • Work collaboratively with school staff including music educators, senior leaders, and support teams.
    • Assist with school performances, rehearsals, and extracurricular music activities.
  • Equipment & Safety

    • Ensure drum kits and accessories are properly set up, maintained, and used safely.
    • Report any equipment issues to Performant Solutions Limited for prompt resolution.
  • Flexibility & Attendance

    • The role is flexible, with no guaranteed minimum hours. Initial commitment may range from half a day to one full day per week, subject to school demand, with potential to grow over time.
    • Ability to balance scheduling with existing professional commitments is expected.

Requirements & Qualifications

Essential

  • A strong foundation in Music Theory and general Music knowledge.
  • Proficiency in Drum Set performance and broader instrumental/musical skills.
  • Experience in Music Education, including lesson planning and student assessment.
  • Ability to teach diverse learners with patience, clarity, and positive classroom management.
  • Relevant qualification in music or music education (e.g., diploma, degree, or advanced level equivalent) is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with school staff.

Desirable
