DSA Fault Studies Engineer, Engineer to Senior Level

Salary - £42,000 - £66,500
Hybrid - Derby, Warrington or Manchester

We are now recruiting for the exciting role of DSA Fault Studies Engineer, to be involved in the safety and regulatory compliance for game changing technology within the nuclear industry. This role is open to both Engineer and Senior level candidates, with grade and salary matched to the experience you bring.

We are Rolls-Royce SMR and we're doing something that's never been done before. We're revolutionising an industry. That's a once-in-a-career opportunity for those excited by such a challenge. This is more than just a job; this is a legacy.

Role Purpose

Reporting to the Safety Assessment Manager, the DSA Fault Studies Engineer will apply Deterministic Safety Assessment (DSA) and hazards assessment to the design of the Rolls-Royce SMR power station, working across engineering disciplines to ensure the design meets safety case requirements. Part time hours are available for this role, as they are across Rolls-Royce SMR.

This is a genuinely end to end safety engineering role, giving a broad view across the whole plant rather than a narrow slice of it, with real ownership of your area of the safety case. You will have a direct hand in developing a first of a kind nuclear power station design, as part of a high skilled and growing team.

Within six months you will be moving toward completion of GDA Step 3. Within a year, GDA will be complete and the focus will shift to site specific licensing activity. Within three years there is genuine scope to move into operations, international work, or exposure to different regulatory ecosystems, depending on where your interests take you.

Key Results & Achievements

  • Deterministic analysis delivered to support the design of the Rolls-Royce SMR power station, to agreed quality and programme.
  • Fault schedules and deterministic analysis documentation produced to a high standard.
  • Deterministic analysis undertaken and presented in support of licensing and Generic Design Assessment.
  • Engineering disciplines supported in applying deterministic considerations to their design decisions.
  • The project represented effectively both internally and externally, including with regulators.
  • Successful collaboration within multidisciplinary teams to tight deadlines.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
