DSEAR Appointed Person - Environment

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced DSEAR Appointed Person to join the team at Galliford Try within our Environment Business.
This is a UK wide role and you will have the opportunity to travel across multiple sites and projects within our Environment Business.
You will work across our Environment Business, supporting the UK AMP 8 delivery across multiple water frameworks.
What you will be doing
This is a highly demanding key role with key inputs throughout the project lifecycle within the Environment Division. As DSEAR Appointed Person, you will be designated to regions to coordinate DSEAR implementation, ensuring the DSEAR Divisional Operating Procedure (DOP) and controls are followed. You will work with project teams and subcontractors to ensure a safe working environment for all employees, including the supply chain, and the efficient delivery of DSEAR hazardous areas, working closely with the Senior Project Manager/Project Managers and the MEICA/Commissioning team to ensure work is completed to the highest of standards.
You will support the Project Manager, MEICA and/or Commissioning Lead/Manager in the successful handover of projects through collaborative management of snags and defects, and by demonstrating that quality criteria are met through completion of a performance test process.
You will be responsible for implementing and maintaining DSEAR hazardous area safe systems of work in accordance with Site Health and Safety Management procedures on the projects under your control, including regular assessment of new risks and hazards not already covered by existing safety documentation.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Promote and implement the Environment Division DSEAR Divisional Operating Procedure (DOP), in conjunction with the DSEAR Duty Holder
- Ensure the DSEAR hazardous installation works on assigned projects comply with the Explosion Protection Document (EPD)
- Work with the DSEAR verifier to ensure the EPD is developed in a timely manner, to the quality required under the DOP
- Ensure no plant or equipment within a DSEAR hazardous area enters service without DSEAR verifier approval
- Identify applicable Client or alternative DSEAR standards with the Project/Site Manager and the DSEAR Duty Holder
- Appoint DSEAR Supervisor(s) and audit their performance
- Complete the DSEAR Pre-Assessment and coordinate with the DSEAR Verifier, design, pre-construction and construction teams
- Lead the creation and maintenance of the project Explosion Protection Document
- Communicate hazardous areas to project teams
- Review subcontractor competence with the HSE team, and review and approve RAMS for all work taking place in a hazardous area
- Coordinate with the supply chain and subcontractors on the selection of compliant zoned area equipment, supported by regular site inspections to verify adherence
- Identify Divisional Operating Procedure improvements to the DSEAR Duty Holder
- Ensure compliance with the Hazardous Materials/COSHH and DSEAR Standard, Confined Space Management Standard, Hazard and Risk Management, Personal Protective Equipment Standard, Training Standard, and HSE Emergency Preparedness and Response
- Provide DSEAR briefing and awareness training
- Ensure a full understanding of the DSEAR requirements of the project, including the commissioning requirements and interfaces with existing equipment and processes
- Support the design team in the specification of DSEAR systems
- Support the MEICA and/or Commissioning team during the various stages of commissioning delivery and plant implementation associated with DSEAR hazardous areas
- Engage with specialist support functions, including DSEAR, Technical Authors and Document Controllers, to ensure early engagement and a clear understanding of project needs, deliverables and timescales
- Coordinate electrical activities with Galliford Try and subcontract resources to ensure project requirements and the programme are met
- Ensure DSEAR hazardous area delivery programme updates are included within the main contract programme, in collaboration with the planner, and that progress meetings are held at the necessary intervals
- Ensure all DSEAR hazardous area snags and outstanding works are cleared, with a focus on completing these while the relevant contractors are on site
- Ensure the team works in a safe manner, and that all Galliford Try processes and procedures are adhered to

About You
Ideally you have a minimum of 5 years' experience in the water or transferable industry. You have a strong background in the delivery of DSEAR hazardous areas. Be able to demonstrate the ability in site management and delivery of DSEAR hazardous area installations, and manage the interface with the Client on a regular basis, including the prompt resolution of issues affecting project progress. Have a good working knowledge of the Microsoft Office applications to facilitate the creation and presentation of reports as required. Be able to demonstrate an understanding of health, safety and environmental approaches. Be able to demonstrate an understanding of water industry processes. Be able to demonstrate an understanding of mechanical and electrical equipment used in the water industry.

- CompEx 1-4 Gas & Vapours Modules or equivalent
- CompEx 5-6 Dust Modules or equivalent
- CompEx 9-10 Water Utilities Modules or equivalent
- CompEx 11 Mechanical Module or equivalent
- CSCS or ECS card in an appropriate discipline
- EUSR National Water Hygiene Card
- SMSTS (preferred) with SSSTS (minimum)
- First Aid at Work (preferred)
- BS7671 Requirements for Electrical Installations – 18th Edition
