Job Description
Only applicants with a psychology degree can apply to this role.
Are you looking for a role that combines hands-on care with psychological practice, and allows you to make a real difference every day? Join our team at Potters Bar Clinic, where we believe in helping people live their best lives. Here, you’ll feel valued, supported and empowered to grow because when you’re at your best, so are the people we care for.
This unique dual role blends direct patient care with psychological support, giving you the opportunity to develop clinical skills, contribute to meaningful therapeutic work, and shape the patient journey from two complementary angles. It’s a role with purpose, connection and the chance to build a long-term career in mental health.
To thrive in this role, you’ll bring experience of supporting service users in a care, mental health or related setting, alongside a BPS-accredited Psychology degree (GBR), strong communication skills, compassion, resilience, and the ability to work within professional boundaries. You’ll be confident using basic research, data and IT systems, open to reflective practice, willing to complete the Care Certificate and work towards Level 2 Health & Social Care, and comfortable working under supervision as part of a multidisciplinary team.
You’ll work effectively as a supportive and responsible team member, safeguarding the wellbeing of patients, upholding confidentiality and professional boundaries, maintaining accurate records and resources, following statutory and organisational guidelines, seeking supervision when needed, responding to concerns appropriately, contributing to service improvement, and ensuring all actions support safe, ethical and high-quality care.
This is a blended position where you will work 30 hours per week as a Healthcare Assistant on the ward, and 7.5 hours per week as a Psychology Support Assistant within the Psychology Department. You’ll follow the expectations and boundaries of each role on the relevant days, working as part of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to safe, compassionate and recovery-focused care.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
