Dual Service Operative
Security and Cleaning Assistant – Viking Shopping Centre
Location: Viking Shopping Centre
Pay Rate: £13.25 per hour
Hours: 40 hours per week, rotated days and nights (5 days per week)
Role Overview and Purpose
Maintaining a safe and secure environment for customers and employees through premises patrolling, monitoring and daily cleaning. Supporting the centre’s day-to-day operational supervision.
Key Responsibilities
Health and Safety & Security
- Ensure high cleaning standards are maintained, keeping the centre safe for all visitors.
- Oversee efficient recycling and waste management.
- Maintain welfare facilities in good working condition.
- Conduct daily inspections of site streets, car parks, roadways, and public areas.
- Carry out all required Health & Safety checks as directed by the Facilities Manager and Centre Manager.
- Communicate and enforce Health & Safety practices and regulations.
- Prevent, detect, and investigate disturbances, offences, or unauthorised access.
- Secure access points (doors, gates) and escort inappropriate/dangerous individuals from the premises.
- Accurately report incidents, accidents, and irregularities (e.g., vandalism, trespassing, health concerns).
- Operate CCTV systems, including managing footage and bodycams while monitoring multiple feeds.
- Handle anti-social behaviour, intoxicated individuals, and coordinate with emergency services.

Emergency and Operational Duties
- Responsiveness to hazards, accidents, or emergencies—coordinate with police, ambulance, and fire services.
- Direct emergency traffic and navigate emergencies efficiently.
- Ensure all contractors have valid permits before commencing work.
Reception and Maintenance
- Perform reception duties (answering calls, messaging, visitor logging).
- Test and manage fire alarm systems (activation, disengagement, call points).
- Clear the mall/common areas of litter and spillages.
- Assigned responsibility for personal safety, adhering to security protocols.
Miscellaneous
- Perform car park maintenance using mechanical sweepers and manual brushing.
- Handle additional duties as requested by management.

- Excellent customer service skills
- Strong communication skills
- Professional, sound judgement and integrity
- Ability to stay calm under pressure and work efficiently in a challenging environment
- Teamwork and adaptability to cover shifts, including holidays and sick leave
- Ability to follow instructions clearly
- SIA Door Supervisor Licence
