Location: Kent & East Sussex (Various venues with travel required) Salary/package: £150 Day Rate Contract type: Casual Relief/As required Hours: Variable, including evenings, weekends and overnight duties Join The Education People (TEP) as a Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Instructor and help young people unlock their potential through outdoor learning. Why this role matters The Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award Instructor will play a key role in helping young people develop skills, resilience, and independence through outdoor learning and expeditions. This role ensures activities are safe, inclusive, and engaging, directly supporting participants to meet programme objectives while fostering personal growth, confidence, and teamwork. What you’ll be doing Delivering and supervising DofE training, practice, and assessed expeditions for groups of young people, individually and as part of a team. Planning and delivering outdoor learning activities that are fun, progressive, and meet learning aims and programme objectives. Monitoring and evaluating participants’ progress, providing constructive feedback, and supporting their personal development. Leading small teams of other instructors or teaching staff during expeditions, ensuring quality delivery and safety. Maintaining and managing DofE equipment and resources, including set-up, take-down, checks, and basic maintenance. Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety regulations, safeguarding policies, and National Governing Body guidelines. Supporting participants in practical tasks, problem-solving, and initial incident management, including first aid when required. Acting as an ambassador for outdoor learning and The Education People’s values. What we’re looking for Mountain Training Lowland Leader and Camping Leader (or equivalent NGB qualification) or Kent County Council Basic Camp Leader. Outdoor-specific First Aid qualification. Full clean UK driving licence and willingness to travel to venues and expedition locations. Experience of working with children and young people in outdoor education or learning settings. Experience leading or supporting DofE expeditions and activities. Ability to follow and implement operating procedures and safe systems of work. Excellent interpersonal skills with young people and adults, flexible, self-motivated, and safety-conscious. Basic skills for repair and maintenance of outdoor activity equipment. Enthusiasm for outdoor education and a “can-do” attitude. What you’ll get in return Flexible, casual work on a day-rate basis with travel to exciting outdoor locations.
