The Range is a fast-growing retailer offering over 65,000 products across 16 diverse departments, including DIY, Kitchen & Dining, Furniture, Lighting, Arts & Crafts, and Textiles. Founded in 1989 in Plymouth, the business has expanded from an open-air market stall into a major multi-site retailer. Role Description

The Duty Manager role is a full-time, on-site position based at The Range store in Telford. The Duty Manager oversees the day-to-day running of the store during their shift, including supervising team members, supporting customer service, and ensuring store standards are consistently maintained.

  • Managing opening and closing procedures
  • Monitoring stock levels and merchandising
  • Coordinating till operations
  • Addressing customer queries or escalations
  • Implementing company policies
  • Promoting a safe working environment
  • Supporting sales targets by motivating the team and optimizing floor coverage
  • Liaising with senior store management
  • Supporting staff training
  • Contributing to continuous improvement in store performance

Qualifications

  • Experience in retail operations, including supervising shifts, managing daily store activities, and supporting sales and customer service performance.
  • Strong people management skills, with the ability to lead and motivate teams, delegate tasks effectively, and provide constructive feedback and coaching.
  • Customer service and communication skills, including handling queries and complaints professionally, and maintaining a positive, solution-focused approach.
  • Organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, respond quickly to operational issues, and maintain consistent store standards.
  • Basic numeracy and IT skills for managing tills, cash handling, reporting, and use of store systems and email.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory or key-holder role within retail or a similar customer-facing environment is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays, as required by store operations.
  • Knowledge of health and safety practices and a commitment to maintaining a safe environment for customers and colleagues.
