Duty Manager – The Castle Leisure Centre

About the Role
Do you thrive in a busy environment and enjoy leading high-stakes operations? Can you deliver exceptional customer service while ensuring health, safety, and security?
If yes, our Southwark Leisure Service is seeking a passionate and experienced Duty Manager to join The Castle Leisure Centre. As a key member of the management team, you’ll take full responsibility for the facility’s smooth and safe operation during shifts, including keyholding, opening/closing procedures, and staff oversight.
This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference while developing your leadership skills in a dynamic, council-led leisure service.
Key Responsibilities
As Duty Manager, your role will include:
- Operational oversight: Leading the day-to-day running of the leisure centre, ensuring efficient opening, closing, and security protocols.
- Managing staff: Supervising on-site teams to deliver outstanding customer service and maintain high standards.
- Health & Safety compliance: Upholding all emergency procedures, Council policies, and legislation, including Health & Safety regulations.
- Incident response: Handling customer and operational challenges professionally, with a focus on de-escalation and crisis management.
About You
We’re looking for a responsible, customer-focused leader who excels under pressure. Ideal candidates will have:
✔ A composite, calm, and professional approach—particularly in high-stakes situations. ✔ Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage with both staff and customers effectively. ✔ Proven supervisory experience in leisure, hospitality, or service environments (preferred). ✔ Functional organisational, numerical, and written skills to manage schedules and operational planning. ✔ Self-management and work-readiness—proven ability to achieve high standards independently. ✔ A personal commitment to outstanding customer service and inclusive community engagement.

Additional Information
Role Details
- Hours: 36 hours per week (including weekends).
- Contract type: Fixed-Term Contract (FTC) / Secondment (positions may rotate).
- DBS required: Enhanced clearance (as per Council policies).
