About the Role
We are seeking a Duty Operations Coordinator to ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of our flying programme. Based in the Operations Control Centre (OCC), you will coordinate real-time operational activity, manage challenges, and maintain seamless programme execution under time-sensitive pressures.
As part of the UK’s defence capability, AirTanker delivers air-to-air refuelling and air transport services to the RAF and MOD. In this role, you’ll support both military and commercial operations, ensuring situational awareness, risk mitigation, and stakeholder communication to maintain resilience.
Key Responsibilities

Coordinate Operational Delivery:
- Support the Duty Operations Manager in executing the flying programme within daily windows
- Act as the primary OCC lead for charter and ACMI operations, including last-minute and after-hours requests
- Collaborate across departments to ensure seamless programme execution

Flight Operations & Planning:
- Assist with flight planning, including performance calculations and ETOPS considerations
- Produce accurate flight briefings and documentation within strict deadlines
- Monitor live operations using flight tracking systems, ATC updates, and airport slot management

Risk Management & Decision-Making:
- Identify and mitigate operational risks (weather, industrial action, airport disruptions)
- Communicate updates to customers and external agencies on performance and disruptions
- Document significant changes to the flying programme

Team Development & Process Improvement:
- Mentor Operations Controllers through coaching
- Collect best practices and propose efficiency enhancements to current systems and workflows
Requirements & Qualifications
Essential:
- Proven experience in an airline Operations Control Centre (OCC) or equivalent environment
- Strong ability to make real-time, time-critical decisions under pressure
- Experience supporting charter and commercial flying operations
- Flight planning and aircraft performance knowledge
- Proficiency in operational systems and Microsoft Office
- Familiarity with emergency response procedures
- Fundamental understanding of Flight Time Limitations (FTL)
Equally Valued:
- Knowledge of Flight Time Regulations
- Excellent communication, analytical, and organisational skills
- Ability to work independently and multitask in a fast-paced setting
- Strong attention to detail and proactive approach
- Quick decision-making under ambiguity
