The Department for Education has announced that the British Council will act as the National Agency for Erasmus+. Following the UK-EU political agreement for UK re-entry into the Erasmus+ programme from 2027, this role has been formalised under the EU–UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement. As a partner in Erasmus+ UK National Agency (2014–2020) the British Council funded over 8,000 projects, engaged 580,000 UK participants, and distributed €1.1 billion.


Job Title

E+ Senior Social Value and Inclusion Manager

Contract Details

  • Pay Band: 8 / E
  • Contract: 2-Year Fixed-Term (extension possible)
  • Location: London, Cardiff, Belfast, or Edinburgh, UK
  • Working Pattern: Hybrid (Hybrid working requires commuting within reasonable distance of one of our locations; remote options may apply, per hiring manager)
  • Right to Work: Must have the right to live and work in the UK (no visa sponsorship)

Role Purpose

You will lead the developing, planning, and delivery of the Erasmus+ Social Value Plan, ensuring social impact is embedded throughout the programme.

Key responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Head of Inclusion and key stakeholders (Department for Education, British Council, delivery partners) to design initiatives in apprenticeships, work placements, and volunteering that promote inclusion, diversity, and social value.
  • Provide expert guidance to applicants, beneficiaries, and internal teams on Inclusion and Diversity (I&D) priorities.
  • Ensure the Erasmus+ programme remains accessible to traditionally underrepresented or disadvantaged individuals.
  • Lead social value strategies, I&D frameworks, and deliver meaningful impact.

Main Responsibilities

Strategy & Planning

  • Design, develop, and implement the Erasmus+ Social Value Framework and delivery plan.
  • Support the Inclusion and Diversity (I&D) Strategy through annual reviews and action planning.
  • Drive continuous improvement in social value outcomes.
  • Develop strategic approaches to maximise social impact across the programme.

Programme Delivery

  • Lead inclusion initiatives, tackling work placements and volunteering opportunities.
  • Help applicants and beneficiaries embed I&D into funded projects.
  • Create practical guidance, tools and resources for inclusive programme delivery.
  • Ensure digital and face-to-face activities reflect I&D priorities.

Stakeholder Engagement & Representation

  • Build strong Department for Education partnerships and collaborate with delivery partners.
  • Represent the British Council and Erasmus+ at internal and external stakeholder events.
  • Work with education providers, sector bodies, and government partners to promote I&D goals.

Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Monitor performance against Social Value & I&D KPIs.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations to enhance programme effectiveness.
  • Capture learning to support future funding rounds and strategy development.

Essential Skills & Experience

Candidates must demonstrate:

  • Experience building Social Value strategies, initiatives or frameworks.
  • Knowledge of UK Social Value Policies and frameworks.
  • Solid grasp of Inclusion and Diversity policy and practice.
  • Experience embedding I&D into programmes or projects.
  • History working with public education/third-sector organisations, collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
  • Analytical and data-driven decision-making skills.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and influence.
  • Ability to produce guidance, reports, and strategic recommendations.
  • Experience supporting delivery partners to implement inclusive practices.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience in education, training, or Erasmus+ international mobility programmes.
  • Background in grant-funded or public sector programmes.
  • Safeguarding experience in education or youth settings.
  • Focused expertise in supporting underrepresented groups.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent professional experience.

Desirable

  • Experience in Social Value, I&D, education, public policy, or programme management.
