Early Careers & Skills Development Coach (Fabricator)

Location: Govan/Scotstoun. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements. Please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: £43,509+ dependent on experience

Job Description:

In this role, you will play a key role in the continued development and improvement of the new Engineering Diploma programme, helping to shape the future of technical education within BAE Systems. The role also supports the delivery of the Hybrid Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) model. This provides a unique opportunity to influence modern apprenticeship development, enhance learning outcomes and contribute to innovative training solutions that directly support the future needs of the business.

This role gives you the opportunity to directly influence the future of shipbuilding and engineering excellence. You will be responsible for supporting the development of not only technical competence but also the professional skills, behaviours and mindset required for success within BAE Systems. With significant autonomy, the ability to shape programme delivery and the chance to work within industry-leading training facilities, you'll have a lasting impact on the next generation of engineering talent while supporting one of the UK's most important and innovative manufacturing sectors.

Core duties:

  • Deliver outstanding coaching, learning and assessment practices that engage and inspire learners to fulfil their individual potential and develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours to successfully progress within the business.
  • Take professional pride in their role and embrace continuous professional development opportunities in support of delivering innovative and impactful coaching, learning and assessment.
  • Assess and monitor learner progress & performance in line with frameworks and legislative requirements to ensure occupational competence.
  • Coach apprentices to reach their full potential by providing key support, mentoring, challenge and motivation throughout all aspects of their learning journey.
  • The coaching and development of apprentices through off-the job training courses, welfare support and careers guidance to aid their progression, attainment and transition into the business.
  • Ensure a Safety First culture is embedded in all activities or courses delivered to apprentices.
  • Support modern learning practice such as skills competitions and problem based learning as an integral part of the learning and assessment programme.

Essential Skills:

  • Modern apprenticeship in fabrication discipline equivalent to Level 3 SCQF 6, completing PEO SVQ2, National Certificate Fab/Weld and SVQ3 Fabrication.
  • Strong fabrication and welding knowledge covering all key elements and fundamentals including thermal cutting, welding, marking out, and steelwork fabrication.
  • Understanding of apprenticeship frameworks, awarding body, and compliance networks, EAL, SDS, & Enginuity.

Working closely with subject matter experts, operational teams and development coaches from a wide range of disciplines, you will have the freedom to shape learning experiences while contributing to a culture that encourages new ideas, professional development and operational excellence.
