Job Title: Early Years Assistant

Location: Gateshead

Hours: 8:30 to 15:30

Start: September

Pay: £107.71 (Based on 6.5-hour day rate)

About the Role

Are you passionate about supporting young children in their early stages of development? Do you want to play a vital role in helping pre-school pupils build confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning? Milk Education is working in partnership with a warm and welcoming primary school with a nursery provision in Gateshead to appoint an Early Years Assistant to join their dedicated team.

Role Overview

As an Early Years Assistant, you will work closely with the EYFS team to support teaching and learning within Nursery or Reception. This role is ideal for individuals with a passion for early childhood education, whether you are experienced in Early Years or looking to build your career in education.

You will support play-based learning, early phonics, communication development, and social skills, while helping to create a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Supporting Teaching & Learning

  • Support the delivery of engaging, play-based learning activities in line with the EYFS framework
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to develop early literacy, numeracy, and communication skills
  • Assist with phonics, early reading, and language development
  • Help create an inviting and stimulating indoor and outdoor learning environment

Child Development & Wellbeing

  • Support children’s social, emotional, and behavioural development
  • Encourage independence, curiosity, and positive learning behaviours
  • Assist with daily routines, including transitions, snack times, and personal care where required
  • Build positive relationships with children to support engagement and progress

Teamwork & Professional Practice

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and parents
  • Contribute to observations and support assessment of pupil progress
  • Support safeguarding procedures and maintain a safe learning environment

Essential Criteria

  • Experience working with young children (school, nursery, childcare, or similar)
  • A genuine passion for supporting early childhood development
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A patient, nurturing, and proactive approach
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • Must live locally to Gateshead—no relocation
  • A relevant Early Years qualification (preferred but not essential)
