Early Years Practitioner – St Anthony’s School for Boys
Role Summary
St Anthony’s School for Boys consists of a co-ed nursery (children aged 2–4) and a boys-only provision from Reception to Year 8. The school expanded its nursery in 2023, now accommodating over fifty pupils, with plans to accommodate a further twenty through renovations and extensions. Heavy investment has ensured first-class educational resources and facilities.
An exciting role is available for an enthusiastic and dedicated Early Years Practitioner, commencing January 2027 (term-time only). The Practitioner must:
- Apply Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) principles effectively.
- Support colleagues in understanding children’s varied influences and transitions.
- Work under current legislation and inspection framework standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Model excellent early years practice as outlined in the Ofsted Inspection Handbook.
- Stay updated with EYFS initiatives and safeguarding policies, embedding them in daily practice.
- Maintain consistently high expectations for children’s learning and development.
- Demonstrate secure knowledge of child development (specifically 2–5-year-olds) and subject-specific pedagogical expertise.
- Assess and track children’s progress via observations, sharing findings with parent/colleagues in a constructive manner.
- Plan personalised learning activities, identifying both gifted learners and those requiring additional support.
- Encourage children’s independence through daily interactions, while empowering parents to support their children’s progress.
- Reflect on practice using evaluative tools to improve care and education.
- Document learning progress accurately using the Early Years Outcomes Framework and related records.

Ideal Candidate Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- Level 3 Early Years Education qualification (mandatory).
- Preference given to candidates with:
- Direct Early Years setting experience or
- A graduating educator showing commitment to child-led learning progression.
Knowledge & Understanding
- Thorough knowledge of:
- EYFS Framework
- Ofsted Inspection Framework
- Current Early Years legislation (safeguarding, equality, etc.).
- Strong grasp of child development (ages 2–5) and quality Early Years environments.
