Job Description:
Role Purpose
The School Run Assistant will support our Early Years team by providing safe, reliable and friendly transport and handover for children between home and nursery. Working as part of the wider nursery team and under the guidance of the Nursery Manager and Room Managers, the role ensures children arrive and depart safely, on time and in a calm, positive manner, supporting continuity of care and strong relationships with families.

Safeguarding and Child Safety
Ensure the safety, welfare and dignity of all children at all times during school run duties. Follow nursery safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures, reporting any concerns immediately to a designated safeguarding lead. Support children’s personal care needs during handover, in line with nursery policies.
Transport and Logistics
Collect and deliver children between home and nursery according to planned routes and schedules. Ensure children are correctly secured in appropriate car seats/restraints and that vehicle checks are completed prior to each journey. Maintain accurate records of pick-ups, drop-offs and any incidents or delays. Report any vehicle faults or maintenance needs promptly to the line manager.

Partnership with Parents and Carers
Greet parents and children warmly and professionally at pick-up and drop-off. Communicate clearly with parents about timings, any incidents and relevant information to support children’s transitions.
Teamwork and Professional Practice
Work collaboratively with room teams and the wider nursery staff to support children’s routines and handovers. Demonstrate reliability, punctuality and a positive, professional approach at all times. Participate in inductions, briefings and required training, including safeguarding and first aid as requested.
Person Specification
Essential
Full UK driving licence with a clean driving record. Experience of transporting or caring for young children (preferred). Reliable, punctual and able to manage time and routes effectively. Good communication skills and a calm, caring manner when working with children and families. Commitment to safeguarding and promoting children’s wellbeing. Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undertake one).

Desirable
Previous experience working in early years, childcare or school transport. Basic first aid or paediatric first aid training (or willingness to complete). Ability to carry light luggage or pushchairs as required.
Working pattern: School runs take place during term time, typically mornings and afternoons. Flexibility is required to cover occasional variations, including early starts. This role is offered as part‑time, permanent; exact hours will be discussed at interview.
