Early Years Teacher

About the Role

As an Early Years Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and learning, while contributing to the leadership, management, and reputation of your nursery setting. Qualified at degree level with a proven track record, you will inspire, lead, and motivate your team by leveraging your in-depth knowledge and experience to plan, teach, and assess our Pre-School children. Balancing the needs of all stakeholders—children, their families, staff, and Ofsted—is essential for outstanding outcomes.

You will also be a reliable key holder, ensuring smooth daily operations, making it critical to maintain continuous professional and personal development to stay up-to-date with relevant knowledge.


Hours: 8:30am – 4:30pm, Monday to Friday (37.5 hours per week) Location: Hours split between Cherubs Sutton-In-Ashfield and Cherubs South Normanton


Note: This role is dynamic, so Cherubs Nurseries reserves the right to amend job description requirements should circumstances or standards evolve.


Overview of Responsibilities

You will fulfill the following key duties:

Deliver

  • Provide amazing service for all children and their families
  • Create a high-quality, child-led environment filled with materials that spark curiosity and independent exploration
  • Lead high-quality interactions to elevate teaching and learning standards, ensuring Pre-School children are school-ready
  • Establish trusting relationships with children, families, and staff
  • Deliver parent evenings and meetings related to children’s development and school transitions
  • Identify and support learning needs, including SEN/ASL, by consulting with the Nursery Manager, Safeguarding Lead, and SEND Team
  • Ensure staffing ratios and all regulatory requirements are met

Take Ownership

  • Fully adhere to Cherubs Nurseries’ approach and curriculum across all Preschool activities
  • Maintain a purposeful learning atmosphere conducive to progress
  • Update and analyse tracking systems, including cohort management and assessments via Blossom, to inform improvements
  • Regularly review and input planning, observations, and child assessments for individual achievement tracking

Commit to Continuous Improvement

  • Hold key persons accountable for fostering positive outcomes for their assigned children
  • Prioritise exceptional results in internal audits and external evaluations (including Ofsted)
  • Attend and participate in training, workshops, and disciple-related meetings (even outside operational hours if necessary)
  • Lead staff meetings focused on teaching and learning

  • Stay agile to embrace new, dynamic expectations—proactively meet evolving duties (unless formally updated in the job description)

Build a Collaborative Team Culture

  • Manage the team, ensuring alignment with best practices through training and professional development
  • Challenge non-compliant behaviours or outdated practices, upholding the cherubs values, vision, and policies
  • Deepen staff’s skills through mentorship, role modelling student-led excellence

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Highest qualification:

    • Early Years Teacher Status (EYTS) or Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
    • Degree-level qualification in Early Years or Education
  • Experience:

    • Minimum 3 years of full-time Early Years teaching in a support setting or classroom
    • 2 years of leadership/coordination experience within a Preschool environment (preferred but not essential)
    • Background in Safeguarding or SEND (e.g., previously act as SENDCo or Language Lead)
  • Proven impact:

    • Proven record of delivering “Good” or “Outstanding” teaching at both teaching and classroom levels
