AECOM UK seeks a motivated EC&I (Electrical, Control & Instrumentation) Engineer for its Warrington office. In this role, you’ll lead the design and engineering of EC&I systems, ensure high-quality deliverables, and collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams while taking on client-facing responsibilities.
Your responsibilities will include:
Core Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver EC&I design and engineering, ensuring all outputs meet quality and compliance standards.
- Produce key documentation: Functional Design Specifications, Basis of Design, User Requirement Specifications, and related design deliverables.
- Check and approve drawings/documents from junior engineers/designers, ensuring adherence to standards and project requirements.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical, civil, and process engineers for seamless, integrated project delivery.
- Manage small engineering teams and workloads to ensure on-time, on-budget, and high-quality delivery.
- Maintain a strong focus on Health and Safety in Design.
- Interface directly with clients, demonstrating professionalism and technical expertise.
Electrical Responsibilities
- Low voltage electrical distribution design
- Lighting design (including normal and emergency lighting)
- Lightning protection and fire alarm systems
- Understanding of interlocking systems
- Working knowledge of BS7671 (essential)

Control & Instrumentation Responsibilities
- Control and instrumentation system design, including loop diagrams and instrument schedules.
- Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) hardware and software design.
- I/O, alarm, and trip schedules.
- Control panel design (General Arrangements, schematics, wiring diagrams, parts lists).

Qualifications & Requirements
AECOM seeks individuals ready to push boundaries in engineering:
Essential Requirements
- Qualified to at least HNC level, with a preferred degree in engineering.
- Working towards Chartered/Incorporated Engineer status.
- Extensive engineering experience with proven technical knowledge.
- Proficient AutoCAD user, with strong understanding of drawing standards.
- Ability to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
Preferred Skills & Additional Qualifications
- Ethernet and field bus communication systems design
- Commissioning and maintenance experience in electrical/control systems
- Access and security system design
- Knowledge of safety standards (IEC 61508/61511/61513, ATEX)
- Experience with client-specific standards (e.g., Sellafield, CIBSE, Water Industry)
- Safety Instrumented Systems expertise
- Medium/high-voltage electrical design experience
- Proficiency in Revit, Amtech, and DIALux
- Self-motivation, strong work ethic, and ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
