Thalia Waste Management - Milton Keynes Waste Recovery Park
At Thalia Waste Management, our Milton Keynes Waste Recovery Park is a technically complex Energy from Waste facility, combining Mechanical Treatment (MT), Anaerobic Digestion (AD), and Advanced Thermal Treatment technologies.
We are looking for an Instrumentation Technician to join our EC&I team, supporting the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the plant through the maintenance, calibration and fault finding of critical instrumentation systems across the site.
This is a hands-on instrumentation-focused role where you will take ownership of field instrumentation and control assets, ensuring equipment remains compliant, accurate and fully operational to support plant performance.
Role Responsibilities
- Maintain, calibrate and fault find on site instrumentation systems across the facility
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), inspections and compliance checks on instrumentation assets
- Support plant operations by diagnosing and resolving instrumentation and control related faults
- Maintain and troubleshoot field devices including pressure, temperature, flow, level and analytical instrumentation
- Support and maintain control systems including Siemens PCS7 and SCADA interfaces
- Assist with proof testing and maintenance of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
- Conduct loop checks, functional testing and commissioning activities during outages and plant improvements
- Support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations relating to instrumentation or process control failures
- Complete maintenance records and reporting within the CMMS system
- Identify instrumentation reliability improvements and support continuous improvement activities
- Work closely with the wider EC&I and operations teams to support plant availability and performance
- Contribute to a positive site safety culture through safe working practices, reporting and investigations

Participation in an on-call rota
Skills And Experience
- Strong experience working with instrumentation systems within industrial or process environments
- Experience calibrating and fault finding on process instrumentation including flow, pressure, temperature and level devices
- Knowledge of process control systems, PLCs, SCADA or DCS systems
- Understanding of industrial communication systems and control loops
- Experience interpreting technical drawings, P&IDs and loop diagrams
- Strong fault finding and diagnostic skills
- Good understanding of Health & Safety within process or manufacturing environments
- Comfortable producing technical documentation and maintenance records
Qualifications
- Recognised Instrumentation or EC&I Apprenticeship
- ONC/HNC in Instrumentation, Electrical or Electronic Engineering (or equivalent)
- SIS / Functional Safety qualification desirable

Our technology includes everything from mechanical and biological treatment, traditional mass-burn energy from waste and material recycling technologies to in-vessel composting, advanced thermal treatment, innovative small-scale energy from waste and anaerobic digestion. In a single year we process 300,000 tonnes of waste that is turned into energy. This generates the same amount of energy as approximately 600 million solar panels. Similarly we recycle circa 95,000 tonnes of waste.
