Ecologist – Manchester Office (National Specialist Cohort)

About the Role

We have opportunities available for Ecologists to join our Manchester office and become part of our National specialist Ecologist cohort. The successful candidates will be embedded within a respected, ambitious, and progressive company with excellent career growth opportunities both nationally and internationally. Key Responsibilities

  • Delivering challenging, diverse, and innovative infrastructure projects, including work with:
    • Anglian Water
    • National Highways
    • Network Rail
    • Rand Grid
    • Thames Water
    • The Environment Agency
    • Transport Scotland
    • Local authorities
  • A mixed desk and field-based role, requiring UK-wide travel (including assignments away from home during the working week).
  • Application of expertise across:
    • Protected species surveys
    • Ecological Clerk of Works
    • Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)
    • Habitats Regulations Assessment
    • Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG)
  • Working in multidisciplinary teams, helping embed ecological considerations and constraints into project delivery.
  • Engagement with:
    • Internal and external clients
    • Partners
    • Environmental regulators

Requirements

Each candidate must demonstrate:

  • Terrestrial ecology background with relevant industry experience, including:
    • Technical reporting
    • Impact assessments aligning with national legislation and guidance
  • Associate membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CiEEM) (or equivalent, or experience to attain membership).
  • Fieldwork proficiency as an experienced ecological surveyor and field scientist.
  • Strong ability to write clear, concise reports.
  • Inquisitiveness and eagerness to learn.
  • Teamwork and collaboration.
  • A self-motivated, hands-on approach, with strong self-awareness.

Desirable qualifications & specialisms include:

  • A current, full driving licence.
  • Technical specialisms (though not mandatory) in:
    • Habitats ecology
    • Bat ecology
    • Ecological Clerk of Works
