Your new company
My client is a part of a group that offers a range of services, including ecological consultancy. They were established over 40 years ago and have provided services to their clients nationally ever since. They work on a range of large-scale infrastructure projects as well as conservation and others.
Your new role
We are currently seeking an Ecologist to support a major highways infrastructure project, carrying out nesting bird checks and surveys to ensure compliance with environmental legislation and best practice guidance.
In this role, you will undertake pre-construction nesting bird surveys, complete habitat and vegetation assessments, identify active nests, and provide ecological advice to site teams. You will liaise closely with contractors and project stakeholders, helping to ensure works are delivered in line with ecological constraints while maintaining project programmes. Accurate data collection, reporting, and communication of mitigation measures will form a key part of your responsibilities.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
