Archives Intern (Part-Time – College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine)

Grade UE03: £24,729 - £25,804 per annum | Part-time: 15 hours per week | Fixed-term: 6 months contract

The Opportunity—Celebrating 300 years of the Faculty of Medicine, this internship will uncover untold stories of Edinburgh Medical School, focusing on themes of diversity. You will collaborate with the Archives Intern to:

  • Research and document historical insights for EMS300 projects, including Learning from Our History walking tours, digital archival work, and alumni collaborations.
  • Support planning for student archive-athons and year-long communications/events.

Under guidance from Centre for Research Collections archivists, you’ll help shape historical storytelling initiatives to engage visitors and learners.


Responsibilities

  • Construct a research-based narrative from historical sources to promote diversity in Edinburgh Medical School’s legacy.
  • Contribute findings to public-facing projects, including digital archives and tours.
  • Assist in organising interactive student engagement events (e.g., archive-athons).
  • Work closely with the second Archives Intern to lay groundwork for sustained educational programming and storytelling.

Requirements

  • Interest in medical, social, or public history, particularly diversity branding.
  • Strong research and communication skills—capable of translating complex archives into accessible formats.
  • Enthusiasm for collaborative working.

The role is suitable for interns or early-career professionals. Flexibility (including hybrid options on a non-contractual basis) may be accommodated.
