Markets Editor – Farmers Weekly

Hybrid: Sutton, 3 days in the office Salary: Up to £42,000, depending on experience and company benefits Contract: Permanent, full-time

About the Role

As Markets Editor for Farmers Weekly, you’ll be at the heart of the stories, trends, and market movements shaping UK agriculture. From commodity prices and input costs to emerging opportunities in carbon and biodiversity markets, you’ll help farmers make informed business decisions through trusted, insightful journalism across print, digital, and podcast channels.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of a high-profile area of one of the UK’s most respected agricultural brands. Whether your background is in agricultural journalism, business reporting, market analysis, or the wider farming sector, you’ll have the freedom to shape coverage, develop ideas, and build your expertise while working alongside experienced and supportive colleagues. With access to leading industry voices, valuable market data, and a highly engaged audience, you’ll play an important role in helping Farmers Weekly deliver the insight farmers rely on every day.

What You’ll Be Doing

You will:

  • Lead Farmers Weekly’s markets coverage across print, digital, and podcast channels, producing engaging content that translates complex economic and commodity trends into practical insights for farming audiences.
  • Deliver comprehensive coverage of agricultural input and output markets, including labour, seed, feed, fertiliser, red diesel, crop protection, fodder, cereals and oilseeds, livestock, and milk prices, while identifying emerging opportunities such as carbon markets and biodiversity net gain.
  • Produce original journalism, analysis, interviews, and long-form features that provide subscribers with valuable market intelligence, expert commentary, and actionable advice.
  • Use data, charts, graphics, and infographics to strengthen storytelling and improve audience understanding of market movements and trends.
  • Manage the weekly markets content workflow, including writing, editing, and proofing copy, while ensuring continuity of coverage during holidays and peak periods.
  • Oversee the production and accuracy of Farmers Weekly markets data, working closely with third-party data providers and internal stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with the news, business, and wider editorial teams to integrate markets expertise into broader coverage, special projects, and cross-brand initiatives across Mark Allen Agriculture.
  • Contribute to editorial planning by identifying stories, trends, and opportunities that will engage audiences, support subscription value, and strengthen Farmers Weekly’s position as a trusted source of market insight.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
