About the Role
Wiley’s prestigious social science and humanities (SSH) portfolio is seeking a dynamic and ambitious individual to join the team in the role of Editor-in-Chief, Education.
You will leverage your background in educational research, your knowledge of the publishing landscape, and your strong communication and global networking skills to:
- Drive the strategic development of one or more journals.
- Raise the profile and visibility of these journals within the community.
- Attract new authors and high-quality content.
- Oversee the peer review process, decision-making for submitted manuscripts.
- Ensure adoption of best practices and the highest ethical standards in publishing.
How You Will Make an Impact
- Utilise your international networks and expertise in educational research to drive high-quality submissions in key subject areas for the Education portfolio.
- Strategically develop one or more journals from scientific and publishing perspectives, within the broader context of the Education portfolio.
- Establish and maintain a strong global network of researchers, practitioners, authors, peer reviewers, and board members.
- Represent Wiley and the Education portfolio at conferences and through in-person and virtual outreach activities at universities and research institutions.
- Oversee editorial evaluation, peer review, and manuscript decision-making.
- Foster a team culture of trust, respect, and high performance through collaboration with colleagues.

What We Look For
- A PhD in educational research, with a noteworthy research background and comprehensive understanding of recent trends and advancements in various educational contexts.
- Manuscript handling experience, including pre-screening, peer review, final decision, handling appeals, and managing integrity cases.
- Demonstrated commissioning experience, including:
- Identifying priority topics.
- Approaching prospective authors.
- Agreeing outlines and timelines.
- Guiding authors through submission processes.
- Strong global networks within research communities.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
- The ability to work collaboratively and achieve results through personal influence and engagement.
- A flexible and innovative approach to problem-solving, with a focus on defining and achieving outcomes.
- Outstanding organizational and time management skills coupled with an excellent command of the English language (written and verbal).
- A strong understanding of scientific publishing and a desire to advocate for innovations in publishing and open research.
- Confidence to present and represent the Education portfolio at international conferences and research institute visits, nurture existing contacts, and develop new networks.

Salary Range (UK, Canada, USA, Austria, Czechia, Denmark, France, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Romania, or Spain)
Base pay: 40,200 GBP to 57,533 GBP
The base salary given represents Wiley's reasonable estimate at posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as location, skills, and non-discriminatory competencies.
