About The Role
Wiley’s prestigious social science and humanities (SSH) portfolio is looking for a dynamic and ambitious individual to join the team in the role of Editor-in-Chief, Education.
You will use:
- Your background in educational research, and knowledge of the publishing landscape; and
- Your strong communication skills and global networking expertise;
to drive the strategic development of one or more journals.
Key responsibilities include:
- Raising the profile and visibility of those journal(s) in the academic community.
- Attracting new authors and content.
- Involvement in peer review processes and decision-making on submitted manuscripts.
- Ensuring adherence to best practices and ethical standards in publishing.
How You Will Make An Impact
- Leverage international networks and educational research knowledge, along with desk research skills, to attract high-quality submissions in key subject areas.
- Strategically develop one or more journals from both scientific and publishing perspectives, aligning them with the broader Education portfolio.
- Establish and maintain a strong global network of researchers and practitioners through author relationships, peer review, and board member engagements.
- Represent Wiley and the Education portfolio at conferences and outreach activities, including in-person and virtual engagements at universities and research institutes.
- Oversee editorial evaluation, peer review, and decision-making for submitted manuscripts.
- Collaborate closely with internal and external editorial colleagues.
- Work with your manager and colleagues to foster a team culture of trust, respect, and high performance.

What We Look For

A PhD degree in educational research, with an excellent research background and a strong understanding of recent trends and developments in diverse educational contexts.

Manuscript handling experience (pre-screening, peer review, final decision, appeals, and integrity cases).

Demonstrated commissioning experience, including:
- Identifying priority topics.
- Approaching prospective authors.
- Agreeing outlines and timelines.
- Guiding authors through submission.

Strong global networks within research communities.

Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, both internal and external.

Ability to work in a collaborative setting and deliver results through personal influence and engagement.

Flexible and innovative approach to problem-solving, with a focus on achieving outcomes.

Exceptional organizational and time management skills, and proficiency in written and verbal English.

Strong understanding of scientific publishing, along with a desire to advocate for innovations in publishing and open research.

Confidence to represent the Education portfolio at international conferences or institute visits, and to nurture networks.
