Role Overview
The Lancaster Environment Centre in partnership with the New Phytologist Foundation is seeking an enthusiastic, proactive and organised Editorial Assistant to support the publication processes of its international journals, with a primary focus on New Phytologist.
- Fixed-Term Contract: 14-months to cover parental leave
- Salary: £26,707 to £30,378 per annum
- Completed by: Saturday, 11 July 2026

About the New Phytologist Foundation
The role sits within the editorial office of New Phytologist, a leading international journal (from the New Phytologist Foundation) dedicated to plant and soil sciences. This position is hands-on in shaping the publication workflows of some of the most respected journals in the field.

Core Tasks:
- Assist in the administrative support for production, correspondence, and journal operations
- Liaise with authors, referees, and editorial boards (including formatting, correspondence, and submissions)
- Work closely with the editorial team to ensure timely publication processes
- Contribute to peer-review processes, track deadlines, and manage submissions
- Undertake developmental and editorial work (reviewing and proofing copy, format requests, and managing correspondence with publishers)
Person Specification
Key Skills & Experience:
- Strong English proficiency (essential for journal refinement, proofreading, and communication)
- Excellent organisation and attention to detail (critical for managing multiple submissions, deadlines, and publication timelines)
- IT skills (familiarity with journal submissions systems, Microsoft Office, and writing platforms)
- Preferable exposure (but not required): modern publishing workflows, peer review procedures, or plant/environmental sciences
- Willingness to learn – dezeconde roles include exposure to analytical review, copy editing, and publisher interactions
