Editorial Assistant (Fixed Term – 12 Months)

About the Role
This is a 12-month fixed-term position.
The Editorial Assistant is an entry-level role responsible for executing the daily tasks of the journal(s) and/or project(s) assigned in alignment with client expectations. Central to this role is supporting the smooth running of the editorial process, ensuring timely and high-quality assistance for editors, authors, and stakeholders alike.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide essential back-office support to the Managing Editor, Senior Managing Editor, and/or Client Manager, covering manuscript processing tasks, email management, or special projects.
- Review and check in new papers submitted to assigned journals, ensuring compliance with formatting requirements and submission protocols.
- Act as a liaison between journal editors, authors, reviewers, and other stakeholders, fostering clear and professional communication.
- Apply in-depth knowledge of the peer review process—from submission to acceptance—while effectively utilising the submission system for manuscript processing.
- Understand how assigned duties integrate with broader departmental goals and the overall divisional/business unit strategy.
- Assist in training colleagues on assigned projects (no supervisory responsibilities).
- Follow established communication guidelines and demonstrate critical thinking in task execution.
- Adhere to productivity goals, deadlines, and customer service standards, delivering high-quality support to team members and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate on projects as directed by Editorial and Peer Review Services, adapting to evolving necessities under guidance.
- Communicate proactively and escalate challenges to relevant colleagues and managers.
- Maintain professionalism and courtesy in all interactions with colleagues and clients.

Required Qualifications
- Proficiency in English: Fluent written and verbal communication to a professional standard.
- Time management: Skilled at organising multiple varied tasks and meeting tight deadlines.
- Critical thinking and decision-making: Ability to evaluate challenges and propose practical solutions.
- Customer service focus: Problem-solving mindset, coupled with knowledgeable, courteous, and helpful communication.
- Multitasking: Ability to prioritise and manage deadlines in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Organisational and time management: Keen attention to detail, thorough and structured work approach.
- Communication skills: Strong verbal and written abilities for internal and external correspondence.
- Educational requirement: A Bachelor’s degree.
Preferred Qualifications
- Adaptability in reviewing articles featuring graphic or scientific content as part of editorial workflow.

Compensation & Benefits
Wiley offers competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package that aligns with market standards. The estimated salary range for this role (USD markets) is inclusive of the following global locations: United Kingdom, Canada, USA (including New Jersey), Austria, Czechia, Denmark, France, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Romania, and Spain.
Salary Range (UK): £25,353 to £31,384 (Final salary determined by various factors including skills, location, and competencies.)
