Education Safeguarding Officer – Fixed Term (12 months, 0.8FTE)

Telford & Wrekin Council, Achievement and Enrichment Service

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Education Safeguarding Officer to join our Achievement and Enrichment Service in Telford & Wrekin. This fixed-term position (12 months, 0.8FTE, all-year role) presents an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in strengthening safeguarding practice across schools and educational settings.


About the Role

As our trusted specialist, you will provide expert guidance, challenge, and support to:

  • Headteachers and senior leaders
  • Safeguarding professionals

Your key contributions will ensure that children and young people remain safe, supported, and thrive in their learning environments.

This role is ideal for a confident and knowledgeable professional with proven expertise in safeguarding, equipped to:

  • Advise, influence, and collaborate with leadership teams
  • Drive improvements in safeguarding outcomes
  • Champion child protection policies and practices

  • Experience as a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) in schools
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent relevant experience
  • Deep understanding of child protection legislation, policies, and operational safeguarding practice
  • Strong ability to analyse risk, communicate effectively, and negotiate solutions
  • Ability to work collaboratively with schools, partner agencies, and external stakeholders
  • A proactive, solution-focused mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement

Requirements

To apply, you will have:

✅ Expertise as a safeguarding professional (e.g., DSL experience) ✅ Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent qualification/experience ✅ Comprehensive knowledge of child protection frameworks, including DfE guidance ✅ Strong advisory and consultancy skills for senior leadership ✅ Excellent communication, with ability to influence awareness and action ✅ Collaborative approach, with atrack record of cross-agency partnership working
