About This Role

Work where it matters most, achieve what matters more

Be part of a team where passion meets purpose, as we work together where the challenge is greatest to change the lives and build the futures of children and young people.

We are seeking a committed and resilient Education Welfare Officer to play a vital role in improving student attendance and engagement across secondary school. This is a highly impactful position where you will work directly with students, families, and external agencies to remove barriers to attendance and ensure every child can succeed.

You will lead on targeted interventions, including supporting persistently absent students, conducting home visits, and implementing strategies that drive sustained improvement. This role is key to strengthening our whole-school culture of attendance and ensuring we meet our statutory responsibilities, particularly in a context where attendance is a priority for improvement.

About You

You will be passionate about making a difference to young people’s lives and have the resilience to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment. You will bring strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust with families while also providing appropriate challenge where needed.

You’ll have experience of working with young people or vulnerable families and a good understanding of the barriers that impact school attendance. Highly organised and solution-focused, you will be confident analysing data, managing caseloads, and working collaboratively with colleagues and external agencies. Above all, you will be determined, empathetic, and committed to ensuring every student is supported to attend, achieve, and thrive.

About The Academy

We are a welcoming, positive thinking community Academy located in Grimsby, not far from the beautiful Lincolnshire Wolds, coastline, and countryside.

We pride ourselves on being values driven and our ASPIRE (Achievement, Support, Perseverance, Independence, Respect, and Engage) values are at the heart of Academy life.

Ormiston Maritime Academy (OMA) offers a dynamic and inclusive workplace with outstanding professional development opportunities. Student well-being, safety, and success are our top priorities. Under the leadership of Principal Rob Spendlow, we have built a nurturing environment where students feel safe and supported, fostering positive attitudes toward learning. If you’re ready to contribute to a team that strives for excellence and creates meaningful change, Ormiston Maritime Academy is the place for you.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
