Educational Psychologist

Salary Soulbury A Scale 3–8 (£49,215 – £59,809 per annum)

  • Up to 3 SPA points plus £7,000 annual market enhancement
  • £6,000 relocation package

Hours Full-time or part-time

Location Based in either Stevenage or Hemel Hempstead (hybrid working and countywide travel)

Job Introduction

Hertfordshire County Council is continuing to invest in its Educational Psychology Service, and we are seeking Educational Psychologists who are passionate about:

  • Inclusive, preventative, and evidence-based practice
  • Supporting children and young people (0–25) with a focus on SEND, emotional wellbeing, and inclusion

This role is ideal for:

  • Experienced practitioners
  • Those currently completing doctoral training

Our Educational Psychology Service operates within an integrated practice framework, providing support through:

  • Consultation-based practice, systemic work, and early intervention
  • Collaborative approaches with families, schools, and partner services
  • Delivery of statutory duties, parent support, crisis intervention, and training

About The Role

As an Educational Psychologist, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing consultative, preventative, and statutory psychological advice to enhance learning, inclusion, and wellbeing
  • Applying independent professional judgment while being accountable for psychological recommendations
  • Working creatively and flexibly with children and young people (0–25), particularly those with SEND
  • Implementing evidence-based, research-informed approaches in psychological formulation and intervention
  • Supporting crisis and incident response as needed
  • Collaborating multi-disciplinarily and multi-agency to achieve positive outcomes

About You

Eligibility

We welcome applications from:

  • Qualified Educational Psychologists (EPs)
  • Trainee EPs currently in years 2 or 3 of a recognised doctoral programme

Essential Criteria

  • Professional Doctorate in Educational Psychology (or equivalent, including Qualified Teacher Status) and current HCPC registration (or pursing on a recognised path)
  • Experience in local authority settings
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, including the SEND Code of Practice
  • Ability to incorporate psychological theory, research, and consultation-based approaches into practice
  • Proven track record of collaborating with schools, families, and multi-agency teams (including crisis responses)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including producing clear, high-quality reports under deadline pressures
  • Capacity to work independently, manage workloads, and balance competing demands
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and children’s rights
  • Full driving licence and access to a vehicle for work-related travel
