EfW Senior Operations Technician
# EfW Senior Operations Technician – Permanent / Shift Worker
Location: Cornwall Energy Recovery Centre, PL26 8DY
Contract: Permanent
Working Pattern: Shift
Hours per Week: 37.5 hours (pro-rated 4-on, 4-off 12-hour shifts: 2 days, 2 nights, 7am–7pm / 7pm–7am) Weekly Break: 18 days off after each 7-rotation cycle
Salary Range: £40,583–£44,432 + 20% shift allowance

Summary of Role
Are you experienced in process plants within Power Generation, Chemical/Process Production, Wastewater Treatment, or Engineering? At SUEZ, we transform waste into energy while reducing landfill, helping communities progress toward a low-carbon future.
As an EfW Senior Operations Technician, you’ll ensure one or more energy-from-waste (EfW) process lines operate safely, efficiently, and compliantly, generating clean energy across the board.
About the Role
What Will I Be Doing?
- Operational oversight: Monitor, control, and optimise plant performance to maximise availability while meeting regulatory standards.
- Troubleshooting & process adjustments: Diagnose and resolve issues, maintain logs, and carry out waste sampling.
- Plant operations: Operate waste cranes and support environmentally compliant site activities.
- Shift leadership: Deputise for the Shift Manager when required, gaining decision-making experience.
- Safety & improvement culture: Actively contribute to safety initiatives and process enhancements.

Requirements & Qualifications
✔ Degree-level technical background (or equivalent) in:
- Mechanical, Electrical, or Process Engineering ✔ Proven experience in an EfW plant or similar environment (e.g., biomass, power generation, wastewater, or energy sectors) ✔ Commitment to continuous learning, with willingness to pursue certifications such as:
- BOAS (Boiler Operating Scheme)
- NEBOSH General Certificate
- Training in root cause analysis & accident investigation ✔ Experience with safe systems of work (SSOW) or exposure to:
- Boilers
- Incinerators
- HV switchgear (desirable but not mandatory) ✔ Attitude:
- Proactive, team-driven mindset
- Strong commitment to sustainability and safe working practices
