EGTL Plant Area & Systems (Mechanical) Team Leader

Governance, Risk & Compliance Manager

About the Role

We are seeking a dynamically minded Governance, Risk & Compliance Manager to oversee EGTL assets, ensuring responsible operations, risk mitigation, and alignment with health, safety, environment, and quality (SHEQ) principles.

You will play a pivotal role in strategy development, project execution, financial governance, and contract management, while leading teams in maintenance excellence, operational resilience, and continuous improvement.


Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Compliance

  • Develop and implement governance, risk, and compliance strategies to ensure EGTL assets operate responsibly.
  • Oversee the company’s GMI-PEM, MAN, and SHE management systems, ensuring full compliance.
  • Align plant engineering and maintenance planning with EGTL’s broader business objectives.

Business & Financial Management

  • Draft and manage the plant engineering business plan, integrating costs and benefits into EGTL’s overarching financial framework.
  • Monitor and optimise engineering and maintenance operational expenditures (opex) and capital budgets.

Project & Outage Delivery

  • Own project and outage management from concept to delivery, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, execution timelines, and cost controls.
  • Lead rigorous scoping and execution of complex plant projects with a focus on risk mitigation.

Contract & Vendor Management

  • Strategic contract governance from inception to delivery, with performance benchmarking.
  • Conduct and lead complex technical and commercial contract negotiations, securing optimal business outcomes.
  • Build high-performing teams, ensuring delivery excellence across contracted service providers.

Maintenance Excellence

  • Develop and implement maintenance strategies to meet technical, compliance, and cost-efficiency targets.
  • Advocate for process optimisation through benchmarking, stakeholder collaboration, and operational excellence.

Safety & Performance Leadership

  • Foster a proactive safety culture and ensure team compliance with ** occupational safety standards**.
  • Coaching, motivating, and mentoring teams to accelerate performance and operational safety.

Key Experiences & Qualifications

Technical Expertise

  • Degree level in engineering (or equivalent HNC/HND with substantial industry experience).
  • Proven expertise in power plant engineering, maintenance, and operations, including combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) systems.

Project & Commercial Management

  • Project management (APMP level D+) with a focus on high-value, high-risk energy projects.
  • Qualified to APMP C+ and an appetite to further acceleration.
  • Senior contract management experience, including vendor performance assessments, contract mitigation strategies, and financial model accuracy.
  • Authority to hold Contractor Management (CME) qualified roles, including Nominated Engineer (EREP), ERescheck (ERSHE).

Safety & Maintenance Leadership

  • National Health & Safety Certificate (or equivalent).
  • Operational Excellence Navigator certification for process improvement.
  • Deep experience in maintenance strategy execution via SAP end-to-end, with continuous optimisation focus.

Personal Attributes

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to lead and adapt to change with resilience and clarity.
  • Change champion—effective in unfreezing processes, deploying ideas, and building strategic alignment.
  • Influencing and negotiation skills to drive operational decisions.
  • First Aid qualified and trained—prioritising safety culture.

Training & Accreditations

  • Continuous professional development with aspirations to obtain accreditation via a professional engineering body.
