Job Title
Role Summary
To provide a high-quality advisory and support service to all departments of the company on environmental issues. To ensure that the company complies fully with all environmental legislation involved in its activities and continues to maintain environmental certifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure that a high quality and effective environmental management system is maintained within the company.
- Oversee all elements of ISO14001 management for the site.
- Manage environmental compliance obligations for the site including but not limited to:
- EPR (Environmental Permitting Regulations)
- COMAH (Control of Major Accident Hazards)
- UK REACH
- F-Gas Regulations
- IED (Industrial Emissions Directive)
- The Hazardous Waste Regulations
- SECR (Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting)
- Plastic Packaging tax and PRO (Producer Responsibility Obligations)
- MCERTS
- Ensure that all members of staff (where appropriate) are kept fully up to date regarding environmental compliance requirements, their duties, and how to discharge them.
- Develop and implement policy documents, documentation, and guidelines to meet the requirements of environmental legislation & best practice.
- Organise adequate training for current staff, new staff, and contractors working on site, including generating appropriate training materials and keeping records of who has been trained.
- Manage and continually improve an EHS internal auditing program for the site.
- Maintain links between the company and Natural Resources Wales (NRW), and all other relevant interested parties.
- Serve as the point of contact to support the waste management process for the site, including management of the embedded contractor responsible for waste, arranging collections of hazardous waste, maintaining waste paperwork, ensuring compliance with legal requirements, and ensuring that appropriate waste companies are used.
- Monitor and maintain all Environmental Permits & licenses held by the company such as EPR, ETS, effluent discharge, etc. including both regular and emergency reporting requirements.
- Attend various internal review boards to ensure environmental aspects are considered at appropriate project stages and the company maintains compliance.
- Assist in maintaining the site’s ISO50001 Energy Management certification as well as other energy-related requirements such as CHPQA, ETS, ESOS.
- Maintain an Environmental Aspect Assessment Programme ensuring planning, organisation, control, monitoring, and review measures are in place to minimise the potential for environmental impacts.
- Examine reports and investigate environmental incidents and report as necessary.
- Manage environmental improvement projects and coordinate contractors coming to site for example for air emissions sampling.
- Handle administrative tasks related to environmental aspects such as maintaining F-Gas certificates for leak inspections and booking in payments for waste activities.

Job Requirements
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Essential:
- BSc in Environmental Science / BSc/BEng in relevant engineering discipline
- IEMA/NEBOSH Certificate in Environmental Management (minimum AIEMA or equivalent)
Desirable:
- MSc in Environmental Management
- Full membership of IEMA (MIEMA)
- Formal training in ETS (GHG permitting), MCERTS, waste management, Environmental Permitting (EPR), CHPQA
- CEM (Certified Energy Manager)

Experience
Essential:
- ≥3 years environmental experience in a manufacturing company.
- Working knowledge of all elements of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
- Working knowledge of current environmental compliance requirements applicable to manufacturing.
- Environmental audit experience (both internal, and external including duty of care.)
Desirable:
- Knowledge of sustainability principles.
- Knowledge of Energy Management System (ISO 50001).
- Knowledge of COMAH as it relates to the environment.
Knowledge/Skills/Behaviours
- Strong training skills and technical familiarity with Energy and Environmental systems including ISO50001:2018 and ISO 14001:2015.
- Ability to work flexible hours and meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to work effectively in teams with the ability to empower and listen to others.
- Ability to use Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint at an advanced level.
- Highly motivated, results-orientated with strong leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to read, analyse, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and other employees.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from regulatory agencies.
