EHV/HV Substation Design Lead (Data Centers), Design Engineering EMEA

We're seeking an innovative Electrical Design Engineer to revolutionize critical infrastructure that powers global technological advancement. You’ll be instrumental in designing electrical systems supporting Amazon’s mission of transforming how the world connects, computes, and innovates.


About the Team

AWS Infrastructure Services (AIS) owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure.

Core Scope of AWS Infrastructure Services (AIS)

  • Design, build, and maintain all AWS data centres
  • Manage comprehensive server, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment
  • Ensure seamless, high-performance access for customers to cutting-edge innovations
  • Evaluate and address supply chain challenges with solutions understanding the impact of thousands of variables

This multi-disciplinary team includes:

  • Electrical and hardware engineers
  • Software and networking experts
  • Supply chain specialists
  • Security professionals
  • Operations managers

Together, the team delivers high safety and security standards with scalable capacity at the lowest possible cost—consistently reinforcing AWS’s global excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design & Manage Electrical Systems

    • Develop high and medium voltage substation systems across multiple geographical regions
    • Collaborate with global utility providers and manufacturers to specify the best equipment
  • Advanced Engineering & Software

    • Create comprehensive electrical infrastructure designs using state-of-the-art engineering tools
  • Technical Specifications & Documentation

    • Develop detailed construction documents and technical specifications meeting rigorous standards
  • Project Lifecycle Management

    • Oversee projects from site selection through to commissioning and system validation

Basic Qualifications

✔ Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering OR related field

✔ Demonstrated technical knowledge via:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Experience in mission critical facilities design, including:
    • Data centres
    • Power generation
    • Oil and gas facilites

✔ Extensive hands-on experience in:

  • Researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data centre infrastructure
  • Commissioning systems

Preferred Qualifications

🔹 Current Professional Engineer License 🔹 Knowledge of relevant building codes and regional regulations 🔹 Experience translating design concepts from conceptualisation to deployment through:

  • Prototyping, development, mass production experimentation
  • Managing complex project scopes including new construction or upgrades from planning to completion 🔹 Capabilities in reading, interpreting and preparing detailed:
  • Construction drawings
  • Specifications
  • Submittal documents
