At Midland Metro Limited (MML), we are proud to operate and maintain the West Midlands Metro, providing a safe, reliable, and sustainable tram service across the region.

Our Infrastructure team plays a vital role in ensuring the network remains safe, efficient, and welcoming for all passengers.

We are now recruiting for an experienced Infrastructure Electrical & Mechanical Supervisor to lead maintenance, inspection, switching and fault-response activities across substations, LV systems, SCADA interfaces and associated electrical infrastructure.

You will be the on-site technical authority within a safety-critical light-rail environment, ensuring safe systems of work, high engineering standards and full compliance with MML procedures and statutory obligations.

This is a key leadership position supporting electrical asset reliability, performance KPIs and continuous improvement across the network. Night shift work and participation in the on-call rota are required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate E&M maintenance, inspections and reactive fault-response activities.
  • Act as Authorised Person (AP) and Person in Charge (PIC/PICOP) for isolations and electrical works.
  • Lead on-site electrical activities, ensuring strict compliance with RAMS, switching plans and safe systems of work.
  • Supervise maintenance and repair of traction substations, LV systems, switchgear and associated infrastructure.
  • Oversee electrical testing, diagnostics, fault-finding and safe system restoration.
  • Maintain accurate switching documentation, isolation records and asset information in Agility.
  • Manage and develop E&M Technicians, Team Members and Apprentices, promoting strong safety and technical standards.
  • Oversee contractors to ensure compliance with RAMS, procedures and MML engineering requirements.
  • Support commissioning, upgrades and project works affecting electrical assets.
  • Stop unsafe work immediately and escalate technical or safety concerns where required.
  • Deputise for the E&M Team Leader as needed.

Requirements

  • Supervisory experience in electrical or power-distribution environments.
  • Experience working in safety-critical operational settings.
  • Experience managing isolations and electrical safe systems of work.
  • GCSE Maths & English (or equivalent)
  • Level 3 Electrical qualification
  • ILM Level 3 (or working towards)

Desirable

  • Traction power or DC system experience.
  • Emergency electrical fault-response experience.
  • IOSH Managing Safely
  • AP-level training or equivalent electrical authorisations
