Low Voltage or High Voltage Electrical Construction Fitter – Permanent | Full Time
Base Location
Base location must be within commuting distance of one of the following depots: Slough, Swindon, Oxford, Melksham, Andover, Yeovil, Poole New Forest, Portsmouth, Petersfield, Aldershot, West London, or Reading.
Salary & Benefits
Salary: £36,139 – £43,188 plus:
- Overtime & travel time available
- 37-hour working week
- Company vehicle provided
- Full training for further authorisations and career progression
- Comprehensive PPE and tools supplied
- London allowance (£3,000) if based in Slough/West London
About the Role
SSE is seeking Low Voltage or High Voltage Electrical Construction Fitters to join their in-house Electrical Construction Team in Southern England.
This opportunity focuses on constructing electrical apparatus within substations, operating across 11kV – 132kV on the electricity distribution network. As part of a growing team, you’ll prioritise safety, collaborate closely with colleagues, and work in an environment that encourages open communication and development.
Key Responsibilities
You will be expected to:
- Deliver High Voltage construction projects in live electricity substation environments, adhering to operational safety rules and legislation.
- Install and commission new CT Metering apparatus.
- Operate Telehandlers, MEWPs and construct mobile scaffolds (full training provided).
- Participate in a personal development plan co-created with your line manager.

Essential Requirements
- Knowledge and experience in installing electrical systems, containment, cabling, plant, and small wiring.
- Strong commitment to safety, understanding of CDM regulations, and excellent communication skills.
- Prior experience in:
- Working on DC battery systems
- Internal panel wiring modifications
- Multicore cable terminating and glanding
- Wiring circuit breakers
- Installing CTs/VTs to marshalling kiosks
- Working on AC/DC wiring
- Replacing 33kV outdoor circuit breakers and isolators
Preferred but Not Essential
- Familiarity with the electricity distribution network and experience in live substation environments (11kV – 132kV).
- Previous operational authorisations for the electricity network.
- Qualifications in:
- Scaffold, telehandler, furzeweld
- Working at heights
- Confined space
- Asbestos and COSHH
- LOLER and SMSTS
Essential & Desirable Qualifications
- Full, clean UK driving licence is mandatory.
- Flexible approach to working hours and travel is essential, as the role involves extensive movement within our network area.
