About the Role
We specialise in the safe, efficient, and sustainable recovery of energy from residual waste, using technical expertise and state-of-the-art equipment to optimise performance and safety. Our facilities help divert waste from landfill, support baseload electricity production, and contribute to the circular economy.
We’re recruiting for our next EC&I Technician to join the team at the Rookery South Energy Recovery Facility (ERF), located near Stewartby, Bedfordshire.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Electrical, Control & Instrument (EC&I) Team Leader, you’ll be responsible for:
- Carrying out planned and unplanned maintenance on plant systems
- Ensuring all tasks comply with safety, efficiency, and Encyclis procedures
- Maintaining facility operational compliance
Key Responsibilities
- Perform planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance on EC&I, HV/LV electrical assets, and systems, adhering to EM recommendations
- Plan and execute EC&I outage work scopes
- Manage and supervise specialist EC&I contractors, including procurement and safeguarding of work on site
- Ensure all work adheres to safe systems of work and compliance standards
- Maintain technical expertise in plant maintenance, diagnostics, and planning
- Promote Encyclis Safety Rules and ensure alignment with ACOP, SMI, and LMI
- Report HSE incidents, unsafe conditions, or accidents
- Develop and implement short- and long-term maintenance strategies
- Manage the site CMMS, ensuring effective work prioritisation and task completion
- Oversee CEMS calibration and maintenance for compliance with EA / EN standards
- Diagnose faults on DCS, RIO, and PLC
- Support EC&I spares inventory and workshop management
- Lead continuous improvement processes, including RCA of defects
- Review and update Method Statements and Risk Assessments for the EC&I department
- Collaborate with the operations team to meet facility KPIs

Education & Experience
- Preferable: HND/Diploma/Level 3 or 4 vocational qualification in a technical or scientific field (energy or industrial experience considered)
- Ideal: Electrical, Control, or Instrument Engineering apprenticeship
- Minimum 5 years’ hands-on experience in a medium to large industrial plant
- Knowledge of:
- CMMS systems
- Instrument calibration, testing, and maintenance
- Outage planning and execution
- HV/LV equipment, transformers, and generators
- DCS and CEMS maintenance
