Our client combines two visionary companies to form a leading Smart Manufacturing powerhouse, redefining industrial design, measurement, inspection, and optimisation for global manufacturers—spanning medical devices, automotive, and advanced electronics—using machine vision, inspection technologies, and AI-powered automation.

The Role
The company seeks a skilled Electrical Design & Controls Engineer to:
- Work collaboratively in a flagship control systems and automation team.
- Design retrofitted camera systems and large-scale industrial automation machinery.
- Utilise AutoCAD Electrical for panel layouts, wiring schematics, terminal diagrams, and EU-compliant designs.
Apply only if willing to commute to Harwell, Didcot on a Monday to Friday on-site basis.

Main Responsibilities
Design & Engineering
- Develop control systems, safety circuits, and electrical schematics for industrial automation.
- Design electrical layouts in AutoCAD Electrical, including wiring plans, terminal boards, and process flow diagrams per EU standards.
- Prepare technical specifications for projects and machine builds.
- Coordinate with Applications and Design Engineers to ensure timely delivery of documentation and project completion.
Controls & Programming
- Program PLCs and implement control system architectures for automation.
- Integrate communication protocols (Profinet, Profibus, Ethernet/IP, OPC, Modbus, Serial).
Project & Test Execution
- Assist in electrical panel assembling, wiring, and machine assembly processes.
- Conduct electrical testing on new machine builds, addressing failures and issues during manufacture.
- Support problem-solving during production and assist during the installation and commissioning of systems.
- Maintain and update existing control systems at UK and overseas customer sites.
Supplier & Customer Collaboration
- Act as a technical liaison with suppliers, ensuring timely sourcing and project progression.

Requirements
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 3+ years in industrial engineering (preferably Electrical Engineering or similar fields).
- Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical or equivalent CAD tools for electrical panel layouts, schematics, and control wiring.
- Sound knowledge of industrial automation, electrical control gear, and standard communication protocols (e.g., Profinet, Profibus, Ethernet/IP).
- Practical experience in PLC programming and handling electrical drives, sensors, motors, and power systems.
- Experience with robotic systems is highly valued.
Qualifications
- Recognition at Degree level (2:1 or above) in Electrical Engineering or related disciplines (not mandatory but desirable).
