Electrical Design Engineer

Automotive | Permanent, Hybrid | Warwick

The Opportunity

We're looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to join a well-established UK automotive manufacturer. You will take electrical designs from concept to production, detailing electrical systems and components for heavy trucks. This includes 2D harness design, component selection, and collaboration with 3D engineers and systems teams.


Responsibilities

  • Design 2D harnesses and select electrical components for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) and yellow goods vehicles.
  • Work closely with 3D design engineers, systems teams, and internal/external suppliers.
  • Secure installation and application approvals.
  • Compile Engineering Master Parts Lists (BOM) and release design documentation.
  • Contribute to product testing, analyze test results, and troubleshoot associated systems/parts.
  • Maintain quality and environmental compliance records.
  • Communicate effectively across all levels of the business.

Essential Skills & Experience

✔ At least 3 years’ experience in a relevant electrical engineering role. ✔ Strong knowledge of electrical distribution systems (EDS) and 2D harness design. ✔ Understanding of quality standards in manufacturing environments. ✔ Familiarity with ISO standards for EDS design. ✔ Experience in liaison with suppliers and engineering change control. ✔ Problem-solving skills (e.g., 8D, A3) and attention to detail. ✔ Degree in Electrical or Software Engineering, or equivalent experience/competence.


Desirable Skills & Experience

🔹 Experience in schematic design, 3D harness routing, or proficiency in Zuken E3 software. 🔹 Knowledge of V-model validation, Six Sigma, and ISO26262 system design. 🔹 Participation in DFMEA analysis, workload/project management, and training/coaching. 🔹 Familiarity with truck chassis systems and vehicle software/hardware. 🔹 Membership of a recognised engineering institution (e.g., IET).

Additional Requirements

  • Ability and willingness to travel within the UK for production support; occasional overseas travel may be required.
  • Occasional overtime may be necessary.
  • Must be proactive, accountable, and able to manage workload effectively.

Working Hours

Mon–Thu: 08:00–16:30 Fri: 08:00–13:00 Total: 37 hours per week Hybrid working: 3 days office / 2 days work from home
