I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The business believes that the best engineering happens collaboratively. While the role is primarily based in their Manchester office to accelerate your learning and teamwork, they champion practical flexibility.
Forget strict 9-to-5s; whether you need to manage the school run or prefer to start early and finish early, you have the autonomy to shape your hours around your life.
You won’t just be stuck behind a screen, either. Whilst it is heavily office based you will take ownership of your designs by supporting site commissioning and be able to visit to support your development. When you do travel to site, you're paid door-to-door, with highly lucrative uplifts—including an extra £150 a day on top of your standard pay for international site work.
