Electrical Design Engineer
At Quest Global, UK. We are actively hiring Electrical Design Engineer(s) for one of our highly regulated and safety-critical projects based in Plymouth / South West, England.
You must be a Sole British Citizen and qualify for Security Clearance.
Job Description
The Electrical Design Engineer will be responsible for the development and delivery of electrical design packages from concept through to detailed design. The role will focus on producing engineering calculations, drawings, specifications and technical substantiation to support new installations, system modifications and infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will work closely with multi-disciplinary engineering teams and customers to develop safe, compliant and cost-effective electrical design solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop conceptual, preliminary and detailed electrical designs for industrial and infrastructure projects.
- Produce and check electrical calculations including load assessments, cable sizing, voltage drop, fault level and protection studies.
- Prepare electrical single line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules and equipment layouts.
- Develop technical specifications, design reports, equipment schedules and engineering substantiation documentation.
- Undertake design reviews and ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, regulations and customer requirements.
- Interface with mechanical, civil, structural and control & instrumentation engineers during design development.
- Support design verification, validation and technical assurance activities by conducting design simulations and computerized assessments.
- Provide engineering support during installation, commissioning and system testing activities.
- Manage technical queries and design changes throughout the project lifecycle.
- Maintain configuration control of design documentation and drawings.

Work Experience
Qualifications & Experience:
- Degree or HND/HNC in Electrical Engineering or equivalent discipline.
- Experience delivering electrical design packages within a regulated industry.
- Strong understanding of LV and HV power distribution systems.
- Experience producing electrical calculations, technical specifications and design substantiation.
- Knowledge of electrical design standards and industry codes of practice.
- Knowledge of BS 7671, IEC standards and relevant industry regulations.
- Experience using CAD and electrical design software.
- Ability to interpret customer requirements and translate them into practical engineering designs.

- Experience working in defence, nuclear, energy, infrastructure or industrial sectors.
- Familiarity with ETAP, Amtech, Trimble, AutoCAD Electrical or similar design tools.
- Experience supporting design reviews, hazard assessments and safety case documentation.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management and technical report-writing skills.
