About The Role

As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will strive to modernise and improve existing processes whilst driving new and innovative solutions into our current ways of working to improve business performance. You will identify future opportunities to drive in-house manufacturing capability to deliver key elements of engineering design projects. You’ll work closely with mechanical engineers, software engineers, production, and commissioning teams throughout the entire project lifecycle from concept and design through manufacturing, installation, commissioning, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design electrical systems for industrial machinery and automated equipment.
  • Produce complete electrical design documentation.
  • Design electrical control panels and cabinets in accordance with applicable standards (IEC, BS EN, and relevant machinery regulations).
  • Create and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) for electrical components.
  • Select appropriate electrical components, including PLCs, HMIs, drives, power supplies, safety devices, sensors, and control equipment.
  • Provide technical support to the manufacturing team during electrical panel assembly and machine build.
  • Resolve design issues and implement engineering changes during production.
  • Continuously optimise electrical designs to improve reliability, performance, manufacturability, serviceability, and cost efficiency.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant electrical safety standards and company engineering practices.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver projects on time and within budget.

About You

  • A minimum of a level 4 (NVQ or equivalent) qualification in an electrical engineering discipline.
  • Experience in detailed product design and development within an automated environment.
  • A strong Engineering background with proven ability to demonstrate intuitive thinking towards engineering problem solving and solution delivery.
  • Strong knowledge and experience of using CAD/CAM software and design packages (such as Autodesk, Eplan).
  • A proven track record of hitting product development deadlines and quality parameter targets.
  • A proven track record of successfully delivering improvements and initiatives in a challenging environment.

Salary and Package

  • Competitive Salary plus car allowance, private healthcare, bonus, 27.5 days annual leave days (plus bank holidays)

Location

The base location for this role could be Gloucester, Crick or Warrington, with hybrid working. This is a national role with occasional travel to other sites as required.
