Electrical Design Engineer
Technical Assurance Manager – Construction (Electrical Systems & Net Zero)

About the Role
Mace supports government and public-sector clients, delivering high-impact construction and engineering solutions. You’ll work at the concept stage to define electrical system designs, ensuring compliance with business, statutory, legal, and contractual requirements—while championing Technical Assurance throughout design and construction.
Key drivers for this role:
- Passing rigorous tender processes and condition surveys.
- Supporting project handover with client stakeholder teams.
- Enabling embodied carbon strategies and net-zero delivery in alignment with government and private sector frameworks.
- Promoting Collision to Production (C2P), digital transformation, low-carbon solutions, and sustainable construction practices.
Responsibilities
Design Leadership & Technical Excellence
- Manage design deliverables, ensuring contractual compliance while balancing safety, innovation, and operational resilience.
- Lead the development of electrical system designs from concept through construction.
- Collaborate with design disciplines, client teams, and contractors at all project stages.
- Produce project reports and update documents based on statutory standards and best practices.
Team Management & Development
- Supervise, mentor, and govern direct reports, ensuring timely, high-quality output.
- Conduct appraisals, salary reviews, and career development planning.
- Lead training programs, focusing on sustainability (net zero), digital tools (C2P), and engineering solutions.
- Engage in performance management to drive continuous improvement.

Net Zero & Carbon Compliance
- Embed carbon reduction strategies and operational efficiencies across projects.
- Identify and mitigate carbon emissions risks while maintaining resilience.
- Work proactively with internal and external stakeholders to achieve net-zero targets.
- Represent Mace’s commitment to environmental responsibility on major programmes.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as a technical advisor for clients, providing condition surveys and pre-contract support.
- Participate in client meetings, workshops, and procurement activities.
- Promote principle-based construction principles to safeguard quality and compliance.
- Foster long-term relationships with public-sector clients, internal teams, and supply chains.
Requirements
Technical & Professional Skills
- Strong technical authority in MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) systems, including statutory compliance.
- Experience in engineering standards, RIBA Plan of Work, and contract-based design delivery.
- Expertise in design modelling, carbon reporting, PPP (Public-Private Partnership) frameworks, and BIM (Building Information Modelling).
- Ability to translate technical requirements for cross-disciplinary teams and stakeholders.
Leadership & Communication
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop engineers and specialists.
- Excellent verbal/written communication, problem-solving, and digital collaboration (MSP 365, AutoCAD, Mace’s project systems).
- Adherence to Mace’s ‘Be It’ cultural values—prioritising safety, client focus, and integrity.

Qualifications & Experience
- Relevant engineering degree (civil, electrical, or M&E) and professional accreditation (e.g., CEng, IEMA, A recognisable international body) is preferable.
- Minimum 5 years in construction, design, or engineering—preferably within government/public frameworks.
- Experience advising reputable clients on regulated projects, including complex public-sector contracts.
