Electrical Engineer
Electrical Engineer – Midland Metropolitan University Hospital
Location: Smethwick Workplace: Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH) Contract Type: Full-time (40 hours per week) Salary: £32,000 – £35,000 per annum (dependent on skills and experience)
About the Role
Key Responsibilities
As an Electrical Engineer at MMUH, you’ll fulfill a proactive and reactive maintenance role, ensuring fault diagnosis, repairs, and compliance with operational procedures for complex mechanical and electrical systems. Core duties include:

Diagnostic & Repair Work
- Respond to reactive jobs for mechanical系統, electrical systems, and medical infrastructure
- Perform fault-finding and repairs while adhering to standards, legislation, and hospital operating procedures

Nightshift Coverage
- Act as the first point of contact for Building Management System (BMS) alerts and emergency calls
- Assess issues, assign tasks accordingly, and complete required documentation
- Ensure seamless shift handover to the Helpdesk team for continuity

Qualification & Certification
- Obtain Competent Person status for:
- Low-voltage electrical systems
- Access control systems
- Alarm systems
- Medical gas installations
- Take on the Authorised Person role after relevant training
- Obtain Competent Person status for:

- Emergency lighting
- Nurse call systems
- General electrical maintenance
- Fire alarm systems

Requirements
Essential & Desirable Qualifications
- City & Guilds levels 2 & 3 (Electrical Instrumentation/Related)
- AM2 qualification
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations certified
- Evidence of right to work in the UK
- Previous experience in maintenance environments (especially healthcare maintenance desirable*)
Credentialing & Checks
- Mandatory DBS Standard check (eligibility to pass is essential)
