Electrical Engineer at Renewables IPP

Mint Selection are partnered with one of the UK’s leading renewables IPPs, seeking an Electrical Engineer to join their Engineering team. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team to drive the design, development, and delivery of a portfolio of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects and associated substations (up to 400kV).

You will be exposed to the full project lifecycle, from late-stage development through to energisation, within an autonomous working environment. This role requires you to act as both the Client and Principal Contractor.


Key Responsibilities

Design Co-ordination for One or More Projects

  • Coordinate design inputs from external contractors.
  • Proactively identify and resolve design issues, or escalate to the Head of Engineering.
  • Lead design co-ordination meetings involving all relevant contractors.
  • Manage the design register and provide regular updates to the project team.
  • Monitor contractor timelines, ensuring on-time delivery of accurate design deliverables.

Document Control for One or More Projects

  • Manage all drawings and calculations required for project execution.
  • Ensure correct and latest revisions are used by all contractors during design, development, and construction.

** Communicating Design Information**

  • Make regular site visits to review design developments with the on-site team.
  • Assist the project management team in resolving design-related construction issues.

Design Development of Future Projects

  • Support the engineering team in developing designs, specifications, and contractor evaluations for:
    • Future battery and gas peaking plants.

Owners Engineer Role (Electrical Focus)

Review and Approval of Contractor Work

  • Review contractor designs and calculations, including:
    • Earthing designs
    • Protection systems
    • Fault level studies
    • Grid studies (P28, G5/4, load flow analysis)
  • Provide high-level specifications for electrical equipment (transformers, switchgear, etc.) with technical input from specialists.
  • Represent the company in meetings with technicians, manufacturers, and on-site teams.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a relevant discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of power and energy project design and construction.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ideal candidates will be working towards chartered status (IEng/CEng).
