The Role: Electrical Engineer (4-Month Contract)
ORCA is seeking an Electrical Engineer on a fixed-term contract basis for an initial four-month period to support a range of ongoing engineering and project delivery activities.
You will be responsible for the design, development, review, and delivery of electrical engineering solutions across diving equipment and bespoke engineering projects. This role offers the opportunity to work across multiple projects, collaborating closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, project managers, clients and suppliers.
The successful candidate will provide technical expertise throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring designs are safe, compliant, practical, and delivered to the highest standards of quality.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop electrical engineering designs, calculations, specifications, and technical documentation for projects.
- Produce and review electrical single-line diagrams, control schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and document packs.
- Conduct electrical load assessments, equipment sizing calculations, fault analysis, and protection studies where required.
- Prepare technical specifications and scopes of work for electrical equipment procurement and subcontracted services.
- Liaise with suppliers and vendors to evaluate technical solutions and ensure equipment compliance with project requirements.
- Support project execution through design reviews, factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
- Participate in multidisciplinary engineering reviews and hazard identification activities.
- Assist in the preparation of engineering reports, technical dossiers, risk assessments, and management of change documentation.
- Provide technical support during installation, fabrication, testing, and commissioning phases of projects.
- Ensure all designs and engineering activities comply with relevant industry standards, client specifications, regulatory requirements, and company procedures.
- Review and approve electrical engineering deliverables prepared internally or by third-party contractors.
- Identify opportunities for technical improvement, standardisation, and optimisation across projects and systems.
- Maintain project documentation in accordance with company document control and quality management systems.
- Comply with all Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (HSEQ) requirements.

What We're Looking For
Essential
- Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Demonstrable experience in electrical engineering design and project delivery.
- Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems, control systems, instrumentation, and power systems.
- Experience producing and reviewing electrical engineering documentation and technical drawings.
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Desirable
- Experience within offshore, marine, subsea, oil and gas, renewable energy, or industrial engineering environments.
- Knowledge of diving systems, vessel electrical systems, or specialist equipment.
- Experience supporting commissioning, testing, and fault-finding activities.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar electrical design software.
- Previous experience working within regulated engineering environments.
- Willingness to travel when and where required.
