Electrical Networks Design Engineer
Base Location: You’ll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in one of the following locations: Perth, Glasgow, Dundee, or Aberdeen
Salary & Benefits: £57,150 - £68,295 + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing, and family.
Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available
About the Role
As an Electrical Networks Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the technical development of capital and connections projects across the distribution network, progressing schemes from initial feasibility through to approval for construction, in line with engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities
You will:

Produce:
- Line route drawings
- Stage-by-stage plans
- Plant and equipment specifications
- Support contractor tendering and evaluation

Collaborate with:
- Internal colleagues and external stakeholders to secure necessary land rights
- Ensure projects are delivered compliantly, cost-effectively and to a high technical standard

Manage:
- Plan, manage, monitor, and coordinate health, safety, and environmental requirements during the pre-construction phase

Develop designs for:
- Underground cable projects
- Overhead line projects
- Substation projects up to 33kV
- Support network refurbishment, reinforcement, automation, and plant replacement programmes

Requirements
You have:
- An HNC level qualification within a relevant subject or equivalent experience
- Previous experience in the design and construction of electrical distribution networks up to 33kV
- Experience applying the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 to technically complex projects
- Strong negotiation and influencing skills, able to convey your clear and concise position
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Knowledge of:
- Electrical network modelling
- The NRSWA code of practice (advantageous)
- Excellent communication and organisational skills to build lasting relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Essential:
- A valid driving licence
Support:
- The company will provide access to a vehicle for work-related travel. (A company car or cash allowance may be available later, but this is not part of the contractual terms.)
