Electrical Engineer / Electrical Control Systems Engineer
Location: Bishops Stortford, Hertfordshire Compensation: GBP Excellent + generous benefits
Our client, a company with over 5 decades of experience, specialises in the design, manufacture, and global supply of bespoke cleaning solutions for sectors including biotech and pharmaceutical. Due to their ongoing strategic growth, they are now seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to expand their professional team.
About the Role
This electrical and controls engineering role offers a varied, challenging, and hands-on environment with opportunities to work closely on key processes.
Key Responsibilities

Skid Equipment Wiring & Pneumatic Setup
- Wire skid-mounted equipment including valves, pumps, heaters, and instrumentation.
- Install pneumatic systems on skids.

Control Panel Termination & Testing
- Terminate cabling and pneumatics in control panels.
- Set up systems for initial testing and verification using technical drawings.

Panel Manufacturing & Commissioning
- Manufacture control panels;
- Drill and assemble controls as per specifications.
- Conduct initial testing and commissioning of control systems.

Subcontractor Oversight & Quality Assurance
- Ensure subcontractors adhere to high standards.
- Monitor correct installation and integration of systems/equipment.

FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) Support
- Lead electrical FAT tests from an engineering perspective.
- Collaborate with the Automation Team to validate systems.
- Ensure electrical and process drawings remain up to date.

Project Milestones & Documentation Management
- Track project timelines and report missing equipment, instruments, or tags.
- Ensure systems are fully completed before FAT/shipment.

Electrical Compliance Tasks
- Conduct PAT (Portable Appliance Testing).
- Perform electrical stocktake.

Fault Diagnosis & Rectification
- Diagnosis and repair of workshop electrical faults.
- Address issues with damaged/faulty equipment.

On-Site Installation & Troubleshooting
- Collaborate with designers on placement of containment and equipment.
- Install systems on-site and handle on-site fault-finding/breakdowns.
Requirements
- Qualification: A relevant electrical or controls engineering qualification.
- Experience: At least 4 years of experience in:
- Working in controls placement & panel wiring.
- Wiring interventions (both simple and medium-complexity panels).
- Reading and interpreting electrical drawings.
- Technical Skills:
- Familiarity with portable and manual tools (power/hand tools).
- Understanding of engineering hygiene practices.
- Ability to work in confined spaces around steel-framed skids.
- Knowledge of process equipment (e.g., pumps, heat exchangers, valves).
- Soft Skills:
- Ability to gather technical specifications from internal/external sources.
- Comfort working across multiple projects/company sites.

- Travel & Licensing:
- Ability to travel for on-site work (requires regular site visits).
- Holding a full UK driving license is essential.
Advantageous Experience
- Advanced panel wiring expertise.
- Experience with PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) fault-finding, debugging, and modification.
- Familiarity with HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces).
- Understanding of P&IDs (Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams) & General Arrangement drawings.
- Proficiency in identifying and troubleshooting basic electrical issues.
