Are you ready to join a team of talented engineers and grow your career within a dynamic and multi-disciplinary Transmission & Distribution business? Join us now as an Electrical Overhead Lines Engineer, work directly on ground-breaking projects such as National Grid’s "Great Grid Upgrade", and shape the future of energy infrastructure!
Here’s what you’ll do:
Responsibilities
In this crucial role, you will be a key member of our Transmission & Distribution team, dedicated to leading and engaging with clients to deliver technically challenging overhead line (OHL) design projects.
- Your primary focus will be to learn and contribute to technical support and the design of major transmission projects, joining a team working on overhead transmission lines up to 400kV.
- Undertake design activities related to overhead lines, including:
- PLS-CADD modelling
- Line routing
- Structural analysis and loading trees
- Formulation of design criteria
- Sag-tension calculations
- Insulator/conductor blowout, swing angle and damper system recommendations
- Structural spotting
- Clearance reports
- Conductor and insulator selection
- Support in feasibility studies, including conductor thermal ratings, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Conduct studies to identify and present preferred technical solutions/layouts to clients.
- Ensure projects meet safety, health, environmental, sustainability, and quality standards.
- Adhere to AECOM’s and client’s design management processes.
- Support the provision of engineering deliverables, such as:
- Complex designs
- Reports
- Proposals
- Presentations
- Drawing packages

Qualifications & Requirements
Ready to push the limits of what’s possible? Here’s what we’re looking for:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent technical discipline (electrical or power engineering).
- Experience working on electrical design projects for transmission system operators such as National Grid, SSE, or SPT, in line with each operator’s standards.
- Project experience in overhead line engineering (up to 400kV).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
