Are you ready to join a team of talented engineers and grow your career within a dynamic and multi-disciplinary Transmission & Distribution business? Join us now as an Electrical Overhead Lines Engineer, and work directly on ground-breaking projects such as National Grid’s "Great Grid Upgrade"—shaping the future of energy infrastructure!

Your role will focus on:

  • Technical design and leadership: Contributing to the design of major transmission projects up to 400kV while learning from industry leaders.
  • PLS-CADD and structural analysis: Conducting line routing, sag-tension calculations, insulator/conductor selection, and generating comprehensive clearance reports.
  • Feasibility studies & thermal ratings: Supporting conduct analysis, studying safety, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Client engagement: Delivering project outcomes that meet safety, health, environmental, sustainability, and quality standards, all while adhering to AECOM and client design processes.
  • Technical deliverables: Providing complex designs, reports, proposals, presentations, and drawing packages.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Lead technical support for overhead line (OHL) design projects, collaborating closely with clients to deliver high-impact solutions.
  • Design and model overhead transmission lines using PLS-CADD, performing structural analysis, load investigations, and sag-tension calculations.
  • Assess technical feasibility for projects, conducting circuit studies, thermal ratings, and evaluating preferred layouts while ensuring alignment with industry regulations.
  • Ensure multidisciplinary compliance—maintaining adherence to safety, sustainability, and AECOM/client design processes.
  • Support project delivery by producing technical reports, designs, and documentation—including presentations and drawing packages.
  • Develop professionally with opportunities for career advancement in a dynamic, global energy sector.

Qualifications & Requirements

We’re seeking ambitious engineers passionate about the future of infrastructure:

Essential:

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related discipline (electrical, power engineering, or equivalent).
  • Experience within electrical design projects for transmission system operators like National Grid, SSE, or SPT, aligned with their standards.
  • Hands-on overhead line (OHL) design experience for circuits up to 400kV.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.

Nice but not mandatory:

  • Familiarity with or interest in AECOM’s electrical engineering specialties or sustainability principles.
