Are you ready to join a team of talented engineers and grow your career within a dynamic and multi-disciplinary Transmission & Distribution business? Join us now as an Electrical Overhead Lines (OHL) Engineer, and contribute directly to ground-breaking projects such as National Grid’s "Great Grid Upgrade"—shaping the future of energy infrastructure!
Your Role and Responsibilities
In this crucial role, you will be a key member of our Transmission & Distribution (T&D) team, dedicated to supporting and leading technical delivery for OHL design projects. Your primary focus will be to learn and contribute in the technical support and design of major transmission projects, working on projects involving overhead transmission lines up to 400kV.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Undertake OHL design activities, including:
- PLS-CADD modelling
- Line routing and comprehensive structural analysis
- Development of loading trees and sag-tension calculations
- Insulator/conductor blowout, swing angle and damper system assessments
- Strategic structural spotting
- Producing clearance reports
- Design selection of tower structures, conductors, and insulators
- Support feasibility studies, including conductor thermal ratings
- Ensure alignment with industry standards (e.g., national, international, operator-specific) and codes of practice
- Conduct and recommend technically-preferred layouts/solutions for presentation to clients
- Ensure project compliance with safety, health, environmental, sustainability, and quality standards
- Follow AECOM and client design management processes
- Produce engineering deliverables, such as:
- Complex designs
- Reports, proposals, and presentations
- Drawing packages

Qualifications and Requirements
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent technical discipline, with a specialised focus on electrical engineering or power engineering

Essential:
-
Experience working in electrical design projects for transmission system operators, including:
- National Grid
- SSE
- SC&PT (Scotland & Northern Power Transmission)

Hands-on project experience in overhead line engineering up to 400kV

Strong written and verbal communication skills to present technical findings to clients and stakeholders effectively
