Our Port Of Southampton is the UK's number 1 vehicle handling port processing 600,000 vehicles every year, combined with around 3 million passengers annually passing through our 5 cruise terminals. Due to a relocation, we're currently looking to recruit an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our engineering team in delivering a wide range of works across the port estate - covering both the main port and the Marchwood site. You should be a time served Electrical Technician qualified as minimum to HNC/HND level and will ideally have some exposure to HV works. You'll be heavily involved with renewables work, HV Switching, maintenance works and delivering projects valued between £1k and £10m.

Accountabilities

  • To manage consultants, contractors and directly employed staff to safely and professionally complete project and maintenance works (Electrical and Electronics). This would include; HV and LV electrical supplies, operational electrical networks, lighting, building services and plant control systems etc.
  • To prepare drawings, specifications and tenders for Electrical Projects work. To also include prepare cost estimates.
  • Undertake Electrical and Engineering designs.
  • Procurement of equipment and services.
  • Provision of Electrical Engineering support to the Civil Projects Team.
  • Permits to evacuate.
  • Prepare and evaluate Risk Assessments & Safe Systems of Work.
  • Budget control for delegated projects.

Skills and Experience

  • HNC qualification (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering.
  • Good working knowledge of Health & Safety requirements and ability to produce, update and issue as required all necessary Safe Systems of Work and Risk Assessments. Ensuring compliance with health & safety and other relevant legislation as necessary.
  • Knowledge and ability to work as an Authorised Person issuing permission/permits to work in accordance with both ABP procedures and statutory requirements as necessary
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD 2026. (Desirable)
  • Relevant HV Qualification/status (Desirable)
  • High levels of communication with both internal and stakeholders - able to influence and advise third parties on the correct ways of working
  • Strong team player but able to use initiative, manage your time proactively and have an improvement mindset
